- According
to health experts, shoes are
well-fitted when:
- They are comfortable when you buy them.
- You can wiggle your toes in them.
- They have a strong sole that flexes at the ball of your foot (at
the base of the big toe).
- Shoe sizes can change with weight and with age, so use it as an excuse to go shoe shopping!
- The foot has 26 bones, 33 joints, and more than 100 tendons,
muscles, and ligaments. It is a biological marvel.
- Wash feet daily with soap and warm water. Dry completely.
- If you have diabetes or circulatory disease, get regular checkups
and pay special attention to your feet, showing any foot injuries to your doctor immediately. Pedicures or foot baths may actually increase the risk of infection for these conditions.
-
In case of a minor injury, practice
"RICE:"
- Rest: Stay off your feet.
- Ice: Keep the injury site iced for 20-minutes, then off for 40 minutes.
- Compression: Wrap the injury to keep swelling minimal.
- Elevation: Keep your feet up, if possible.
Consult your doctor.
- There are even
feet exercises (who knew?) to
keep them strong and dancing fit!
